How a Level 1 self-assessment gets affirmed in SPRS
A Level 1 self-assessment ends with an affirmation in SPRS, the Supplier Performance Risk System, where contracting officers verify it. The affirmation is only as good as the walkthrough and evidence behind it.
Step 1: work the 15 practices honestly
Go through each practice in FAR 52.204-21 and decide whether it is in place in your shop. The free walkthrough structures this: plain-English meaning, what counts as evidence, and a gap list at the end.
Step 2: close the gaps, keep the notes
Fix what is missing, and keep the evidence notes. Screenshots of settings, lists of accounts and devices, the visitor log, the wipe log. These notes are what make the affirmation defensible if anyone ever asks how you assessed yourself.
Step 3: affirm in SPRS
SPRS lives inside the Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment (PIEE). Your company needs its CAGE code set up there, and an authorized person affirms the Level 1 self-assessment. Contracting officers check this status before award, so the affirmation must be current when you bid.
Step 4: keep it current
The self-assessment is annual. When something material changes in your shop, new machines, new services, a move, revisit the affected practices instead of waiting for the anniversary.
Educational guide, not legal or compliance advice. PIEE and SPRS procedures change; confirm the current steps in the system itself before affirming.
